A Westcountry computer expert is promoting a new scheme that
utilises unwanted computer equipment to train youngsters and adults at
an Internet learning centre. Neil Wintrip, of Exeter, originally came
up with the idea for the learning centre in May 2000 & in May 2005
he became a UnLtd Millennium Award Winner.

The non-profit making center, called the A1 Positive Recycling
Project Center It will offer NVQ computer courses, diagnostic workshops
and other IT-based training to anyone over the age of 15.

It will also act as a computer recycling centre, breaking down old machines and rebuilding “new” ones.

Mr Wintrip said: “Computer systems are not a luxury item, but a
valuable tool, yet people are being excluded because of their financial
constraints.

“This innovative project helps both businesses and the local community.

I want computers and computing to be more accessible, as having
basic PC skills can improve people’s prospects hugely. “We will offer a
new kind of hands-on-practical-training, where people can pick up vital
work experience while learning, making them more qualified than the
average school leaver.”

Mr Wintrip also believes his project offers a viable solution to
problems that may arise from a recently introduced European Parliament
directive – the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE)
directive. The directive means that businesses with either electrical
or electronic waste cannot dispose of it in landfill.

This type of waste has to be handled by a recycling company.

Mr Wintrip said: “The aim is to collect unwanted computer equipment,
and reuse it to train local people from the community with a short PC
training programme.”

For more information about the project

I am John Abbott - a newbie on this network. We specialise in everything web - ecommerce, design and build, SEO, and loads of other stuff. Keen to find useful partners, or new opportunities.

Look for us on Google under a whole host of terms:

ecommerce, wbsite design, seo content development, link building campaign, and lots of others.

Our growing list of customers also have both number one positions on Google as well as even more just on page one of Google.

We are relatively inexpensive and very agile - if you want something, give me a call or drop me a line.

I am looking for a few pairs of the right hands to make sense of a project I am working on in the area of energy consumption (carbon footprint reduction).

If I had a dollar/pound for every site application that allowed me to calculate my energy consumption come carbon footprint I'd be very rich, the trouble is that these are only used by a very small percentage of consumers, often the bill payer who has a bit of an incentive. In a home or small work situation it is the collective lifestyle of all the residents influences the energy consumption and if one or two people don't play ball the wheels soon fall off the energy efficiency drive.

I think I have an idea and I have researched a lot of the applications, data sources, tools and platforms available and as I am market led can see who this would sell to and by which channels. Is there anyone out there in the network who is remotely interested in this area? Please get in touch if you can, Thank you!
